Making an effort is not enough. Making intentional efforts on special things that I lack is the key.
When I was working in a crisis line, one girl was always calling and talking about random stuff in her life. I could hear that English is not her first language but my first impression was that if she used English that often, her English had to improve dramatically every time I saw her, and her English level was the same (basically, I couldn't understand half of the things that she was talking about). It made me wonder that if I really want to improve my English, I need to be more intentional, look for more feedback, and fix the part where I've always made mistakes. I will be more conscious about what are the mistakes that I make in daily life.
I am lacking of, l lack of
I am lack of: wrong as lack is a verb
